It's Julie's Gig............

But she asked if I would "Guest Host" the blog this week! I have super powers, but I will admit, when it comes to blogging, Julie's far outweigh mine.

I feel kind of like, maybe how a warm-up band might feel. Or maybe, how you might feel when you turn on the Today Show, and find out that Lester Holt is next to Meredith Vierra, instead of Matt Lauer.

Where's Julie you ask? She's a busy, busy girl. Being mom, wife, designer, owner of a company, church go-er, world traveler, has it demands, and sometimes, some of those things that needed "fixin" or paint'n" get neglected. This week she's doing a little of both.

This week is Thanksgiving. Those who know me, know that I have an affinity for memories and I'm pathetically nostalgic.
Being with family, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Dallas and Detroit playing football every year, Turkey, mashed potatoes, little smokies, and all of the Christmas movies that they start playing. Does it get any better than that?

I have a challenge for you. And what would a challenge be without prizes.
Simple-Post and let me know you're favorite Thanksgiving when you were a child. Pretty simple stuff!

Everyone who posts will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win, 2 paper crafting kits of their choice, and like the Turkey at Thanksgiving, we will throw in all of the "trimmings."

Did I mention that we will draw three winners?

Remember I love nostalgia!

My favorite Thanksgiving was probably when I was about 18. It's the last Thanksgiving before my parents got divorced and before my grandfather(s) got sick. I just remember everyone being happy!

My favorite was just watching the parade every year at my grandparent's house with my sisters and cousins. Plus, my uncle would always hand us paper and a pen and tell us to start our "lists". How much more fun can that be? :)

Well, being from Detroit, definitely has to be watching the big game every year, but really my favorite was probably in 2004 the first one after the birth of my daughter. Just made that had all the more magical. Thanks for letting us share. :)

My favorite Thanksgving is every year! This year should be the best because all the family will be together and we have lots of movies and games to play.

My favorite Thanksgiving was when I was in my 20's -- it was the last Thanksgiving when my grandpa and dad were still alive. My grandpa was a little cranky and always liked to make some complaint about my mom's fabulous dinner and that year he complained that there wasn't enough sage in the dressing. We still laugh about this every year and Thanksgiving!

My favorite Thanksgivings were when we would all get together at my grandma's house and all the cousins would put on a talent show. (I was usually the director so I didn't have to act!)

I've been lucky, I have quite few memorable T-days. The one when my brother got to come home from Kuwait for a few days and we surprised my mom on T-day. He knocked on the door and she opened it and there he was standing with his military uniform and his bags. I get teary remembering.

My favorite memories are going to my Aunt's house and "stuffing" ourselves and then outside we all went for a round or rumble, tumble football (girls and boys alike)!

I will never forget the Thanksgiving when I was about 10 years old. It was a super cold week here in Wisconsin and my older cousins walked us out to the nearby creek that had frozen over. We chipped away a bunch of ice, put the chunks in buckets, and trudged back to Grandma and Grandpa's with it. We all took turns cranking the homemade ice cream maker and proudly served our delicacy with each other and our parents. (We still talk about this Thanksgiving every year...deep down wishing we still had the ambition to do it all over again. Rather, we settle for the store bought flavor..haha)

I can't pick one! I love watching the Broadshow shows on the Macys parade every year. It was the closest I could get to Broadway. I used to video tape the segments and then watch the tape of Broadway shows all year.

I would have to say one of my favorite memories was over at my aunt's house when I was in elementary school. We had so many people, we had to eat around their pool table/ping-pong table. As the meal progressed we started to lose patience in passing things around the "large" table. It didn't turn into a food fight, but lets just say, dinner rolls were flying!

First let me say I thought of you the other day, met a mouse..and of course being in the country not hard to do, but this one was running around our mailbox (think rural across a road) so there I stood frozen in the middle of the road with a semi coming ...lets just say I moved and waited until later to get mail...;-) Now back to the topic...When I was younger, my grandparents always came home from their trips just in time for Thanksgiving. So looked forward to it many of years, as I missed my grandparents while they were gone...Thanks for the chance and Happy Thanksgiving!

My favorite Thanksgiving was 1994. 1994 was the year that my son was born and it was the last Thanksgiving we celebrated in NJ before moving to FL. We all celebrated in my dh's mother's house. Her house was one of the old historic ones w/ only 1 bathroom and a wood burning stove. The kitchen was teenie tiny, and yet we managed to fit something like 25-30 people w/o feeling crowded. It just felt like "home". I miss those days something terrible.

My favorite thanksgiving happened when I was around 8 I think. Every year, my huge family got together at Grandma's house with tons of food and dessert choices. But there was never a chocolate dessert... my favorite. This particular year, my Aunt Cathy brought a chocolate s'mores pie and told everyone it was for me. She even made sure I got the first slice! For 32 years now, that s'mores pie is ALWAYS on the dessert buffet on turkey day :)

Going to my Grandma's house in Rigby with all of my brothers and sister and cousins and aunts and uncles...it was house full! There was hardly any room to move with all of the tables and I loved playing with my cousins. It only happened a couple of times, but it was a blast!

You know I don't really have a favorite when I was a child - but the one we just had (for us in Canada Thanksgiving was last month) is a favorite - it was the very first time I hosted and cooked for my entire family. I was petrified (I've NEVER done anything like this before!) and by the time it was over I was exhausted - but it was worth it. The sense of accomplishment I felt at preparing all that food, and cleaning my house and having all my family around and actually ENJOYING my house and my cooking definitely made it one of my most favorite Thanksgiving's ever!! :)

I have a few good ones. The one where 3 schnauzers(small nasty dogs)ate a 4 layer german chocolate cake while the family was watching the Lions. Or the year my cousin nailed me with a snowball right in the glasses(he's felt bad ever since)and more recently, the year we discovered my MILs oven wasn't working when the turkey took about 2 days to cook. Not good.
Ah, I love Thanksgiving.

My favorite thing for Thanksgiving is the Thanksgiving meals as a kid. The turkey on the dinning table is (at that time) the biggest "chicken" I ever saw. lol! Many years on, I now have my own family, I joke with my kids that the turkey is a big "chicken".

My favorite Thanksgiving was in 2005. Not only was it my first time cooking Thanksgiving for the whole family, I found out I was pregnant with #3!!! My husband had to sneak out and go buy a test. Then, at dinner we announced it to the whole family! I think they were even more surprised than I was! I will always remember Thanksgiving that year!

Thanksgivings haven't really been the same since my grandmother passed away in 2003. After her passing, there was some family drama, and now we pretty much don't see her side of the family. It's very sad and I do miss them all.

On a happy note, I love making new holiday traditions with my two little girls and love seeing how their handprint turkeys grow every year :)

We had a few funny traditions at Thanksgiving when I was a kid. First of all, we would spend most of the morning and afternoon in PJS. Secondly we would watch a bunch of classic movies. All the "monkey" movies (King King, Son of Kong, Mighty Joe Young) and then maybe MIracle on 34th street to get ready for the xmas season. For lunch we would eat an assortment of cheese and crackers and fresh fennel. Dinner was more traditional, turkey with 2 stuffings (one mushy inside the turkey and one crunchy from in oven) and all the other trappings and then lasagna baked by my italian grandma who made the best lasagna known to human kind. Aaaaaah, the days when sitting around watching TV and eating until your sides hurt didnt matter!

my all time favorite thanksgiving from childhood (cause nothing can compare to now...when i am all grown up and cooking the meal for my family, nothing brings me more joy than this) is the one where i can first remember helping my mother make the meal...we usually went to grandma's house, but that year we had it at our house...the best part of all? stirring the brandy sauce for the last dish of the day...the bread pudding with warm brandy sauce...everyone else was sitting around (laying around is more like it) or outside for a football game...it was just mom and i in the kitchen stirring the sauce and talking...sweet both in taste and memories...
this year...the first time my mom is actually coming to my house for thanksgiving...how sweet that will be to cook that special meal for her!
thank you!

My favorite thanksgiving memory was only a couple years ago (not when I was a child...sorry). Every year my family plays touch football with a couple other families on Thanksgiving Day. During our annual football game one of my friends had the ball and was running for a touchdown when her athletic pants (those ones that button all the way down the sides of your legs) began slowly unbuttoning as she ran. Once she felt the draft she immediately fell to the the ground to hide her pretty polka dot panties. All the men of course turned their heads and all the girls went running to help her but EVERYONE was dying laughing!

My favorite Thanksgiving was the first year that I got to help prepare the feast at Grandma Mazie's house :) There was such a bustle and soooo much activity and it felt good to be 'in charge' of something even if it was only peeling potatoes!

My best memory is when I was 18. My boyfriend and I brought another friend of ours and he's quite the character. He was at the table before we ate talking about how the pies were "calling his name." My Great Aunt very seriously peered at him and said, "have you always been like this?"
LOL!!! She has since passed on, but I always make sure to tease my friend about that Thanksgiving :)

My most memorable Thanksgiving was when I was five (and probably the only memory I have at that age). We had moved to a new farm about an hour away from the only place I had ever known, two months earlier. On Thanksgiving Eve our dairy barn burnt down. It was very scary, and will never forget my first glimpse out a window in the house to wonder why there was a red glow on white outbuilding. It was a long night, and through it all neighbors from our old town came bringing food and words of comfort. New neighbors came, too. Despite losing much of our livestock and personally, all my favorite kitties - I was keenly aware of the love and friendship offered by all these people. Gosh - now that I have written this I need to scrap it! Thanks for the inspiration!

My favorite Thanksgiving was last year...it was the first time I ever cooked for my family. My daughter and I had the most fun picking a menu and preparing all the dishes our family likes. She is only 9 this year but is such fun to be around and is constantly making me laugh! I am a self taught cook and I wanted to share the joy of being able to teach her and it has been such a blessing! This year we have entered a chili cook-off for church for Thanksgiving , so maybe next year my answer will be '08! Plus I got some great photos for us to scrapbook together.

I think my favorite Thanksgiving was actually the one my first year away from home after college. My roommate and I hosted it and had our friends over for the meal. We (and her mom) cooked most of the fixings, one friend brought the meat, another brought the "beverages"... And we laughed and had a wonderful time. It was truely a case where "friends are the family we choose".

My favorite Thanksgiving memory had to be when I was 6 or 7, the night before Thanksgiving it started snowing and when we woke up the next morning there was over a foot of snow on the ground and more on the way. Most of our family could not make it to our house for our traditional family feast, but my dad, brother and I loaded into his four wheel drive truck and picked up my grandma & a few other realitives so that we could celebrate together! I still have the photo of my brother, dad and I looking out of the truck at my mom. That Thanksgiving lasted several days because of the weather and it was the best Thanksgiving ever!! Sometimes I still wish for a huge snow on the night before Thanksgiving:)

My favorite thanksgiving was when I was 10. My aunt had us over to her house and we watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade while we drooled over the smell of turkey cooking. When we got to the table, we saw the turkey with little white boots on its feet, and each of us had pilgrim hats with candy corn at our dinner plate. We each had an orange cut zigzag with cranberry relish, and a paper turkey napkin ring. It was nothing big, but those little "crafty" differences made the holiday OH SO MEMORABLE! I plan to do the same this year for my grandson!

My favorite Thanksgivings were always when the entire family (and it was a big one) came to our small house to celebrate. Lots of good eats and good fun! The Lions game would always be on and we'd complain about how bad the Lion's are, wow, nothing has changed!

My favorite childhood Thanksgiving was right after we moved down South from the Northwest. I was 7 and this was the first Thanksgiving ever celebrated with my grandparents. Gosh, there is nothing like Grandma's southern cooking. Pecan pie, cornbread dressing and all the other stuff I can't remember. Oh and yeah - I know this is all about the food... I can't remember anything else. LOL.

Have a wonderful Turkey Day!

I would have to say that my favorite Thanksgiving would have to 2002. We had our two boys (they were 23 months and 10 months) and my favorite aunt was still healthy before the cancer took her. We get together every year at my parents house and laugh and just enjoy being a family.

I would say my favorite Thanksgiving was when I was 18 and I had just met my future "husband" on November 16th 1991 and Thanksgiving was our first holiday that we spent together. He came to meet "the family" and not just my parents and my brother but my "entire" family all the aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins you name it. Oh dear god what was I thinking. Yes oh yes he got to hear all the good, bad, silly and not so silly crazy things I have done. I guess it was a good deal as we got married that summer and this thanksgiving will be our 17th year celebrating it together.

I just want to start off by saying that Julie is a great blogger, but you're not so bad yourself! It's a good mix, and you're entertaining as can be!! My favorite Thanksgiving memory was when my dad EVERY SINGLE Thanksgiving would wake us up to watch the Thanksgiving Day parades on TV. When we were younger, we used to love seeing those big balloons going down the street, but as we got older? We were a little more interested in sleeping in on our day off! However, without fail, he would wake us, and we would watch it with him! I think this year, I'll call him to make sure he's watching! We would also start our Christmas lists! That was always fun too!! Happy Thanksgiving Mr. Lindsay! I hope it's spectacular!! P.S. I love the start of the Christmas movies too! Especially when Linus gives his speech in a Charlie Brown Christmas!!

I don't have one particular Thanksgiving that was my favorite. All the Thanksgiving dinners that my mom ever hosted were so memorable. They were the best. My mom would go ALL out for dinner Turkey, mashed potatos, gravey, salads, deviled eggs, cheese ball, etc..... the list goes on and on. I remember the one year that we were all going to go to a restaurant to eat with family. I wouldn't let it happen. I insisted that my mom cook the meal. I couldn't imagine eating out on this wonderful holiday. I know this year will be memorable, as I am hosting my famiy for thanksgiving.

My favorite Thanksgiving memory was the first Thanksgiving we had here in TX. My parents and I just moved here and all of our family was still in MI. My aunt and uncle came down and we had a traditional Thanksgiving meal (and football). The part that makes this a favorite is that I even dressed up. I have no idea why, but I thought it was a good idea. I had a dress and apron like the pioneers wore and I thought it would be festive. I am happy to report that my husband STILL married me after seeing those photos!

Last year my family simply could not make up its mind on what it wanted to do. So we said, "Well, then we're going to Detroit!"

So my favorite Thanksgiving was last year when we traveled to Detroit to watch the Packers win. We managed to have a great turkey dinner in this awesome diner and we really had a blast at the game.

My sister-in-law and her husband met us at the game, so we still spent time with family. It was really neat.

The only downside--no leftovers! :(

I loved every thanksgiving growing up...being one of 8 children the house was always full. But one thanksgiving I will never forget is one where we had several guests---a missionary priest that my father was friends with; two traveling performers who were in town for a production (friend of sister's); and a new girlfriend of my brother's.

It was so cool how my parents always welcomed anyone who did not have any place to go (family in town etc.) That always reminds me to be Thankful that I have a big family.

Happy Thanksgiving!

i don't remember this thanksgiving, but i hear stories about it all the time... basically, i was two and thought i could sit at the grownup table. well, i fell out of the opening in the back of the dining room chair. i didn't try that again until i was a "grownup". hahaha.

I think you are a genius blogger Mr. Lindsay. ;)

My favorite childhood Thanksgiving had to be the one that my dad's whole side of the family got together and celebrated. It was one of the last times that we were all together before he (my dad) passed away.

I loved having everyone together! The gatherings at the lakes were so fun growing up, being with all my cousins :)

Let's see no childhood Thanksgivings stand out just family and yummy food (skip the turkey though, Yuck). When I moved out and got married I became in charge of the pies and I enjoy baking them every year. But last year my dh and kids moved from Florida to South Carolina all alone so we decided to go to a Thanksgiving buffet. It was a trip, it was the last sitting of the day . There was hardly any food left but we had a blast. Then when we were done we went and walked on the beach and drove around and looked a Christmas lights. I have to admit I am not a big Thanksgiving person, but last year I finally felt the true meaning of it. Being GRATEFUL for FAMILY.

The thanksgiving that always plays out in my head was when I was in high school and the whole family was at my mom's house. Nothing in particular stands out from that day, but it was the last thanksgiving that we were all together. Now, each year I try to remember that year and think fondly of those who are no longer among us. I miss them all deeply.

I think my favorite Thanks giving has to be 3 years ago. I had just gotten married and had our first child before Thanksgiving. My parents, my husband's parents, all came out, and it was just a great time for everyone! I was so happy to have my little boy here and my family that there was nothing that could being me down!

I don't remember a specific Thanksgiving, but just Thanksgiving in general. Macy's Thanksgiving parade on the TV when we woke up and then dinner. Turkey with Mom's special savory stuffing, mashed potatoes, sauteed green beans with mushrooms and onions, rolls, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, and lots and lots of dessert. :) After cleanup, it was football with turkey sandwiches later on in the evening if you got hungry.

Since there was 7 of us kids, the younger ones always got delegated to the children's table. The number was determined by how many guests we had over.

Now that we are older, we have the same dinner at Mom's house, and I still eat at the children's table, but with my kids now. All of us kids pitch in with the dinner instead of Mom cooking it all. We still watch football always hoping the Cowboys will win and sometimes they do. lol

I love Thanksgiving!

My favorite Thanksgiving as a child was one where we had an auction. Everyone was given play money and was to make and bring a Christmas decoration or treat. Then we used our play money to "buy" the items in the auction. Too much fun!!

my favorite Thanksgiving was at my Great Aunt's house on the beach...she let me lay with her valuable collectors dolls, drink from her gorgeous tea sets & play with her jars of pretty buttons on her bed. I was in heaven.

I don't have a favorite Thanksgiving day but favorite memories. I think what I enjoyed most on Thanksgiving day as a kid was after dinner going over to the neighbors and hanging out with their extended family. We all just had so much fun hanging out for the evening.

It's hard to pick just one, but really all my Thanksgivings as a child were pretty great. We always had a big family gathering at my grandparents' house and TONS of food. Everyone brought something, and I always looked forward to the special dishes that were only made for the holidays. Yummm...

I loved Thanksgiving as a child. My Grandma cooked the most wonderful meal and had 3 desserts to pick from - all from scratch of course! She had these wonderful tulip shaped salt and pepper shakers that for some reason I always think of. After the meal, she would always surprise the grandkids with little presents. I just love being with family and smelling the turkey cooking - doesn't get any better than that!

Three years ago - the last Thanksgiving we had with my mom before she passed away. The only thing I can remember that was different than this year is that she was with us.

It is very difficult to pick a stand out day, but my favorite Thanksgiving tradition has always been watching the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade. I have watched the parade every year for as far back as I can remember. When I was young my sisters and I would gather around the TV and watch it start to finish. To this day, It is still a big part of my day. I still head over to my Mom and Dad'd house bright and early to catch the parade with my family before the feast. Thanksgiving just wouldn't be the same with out it. Have a great Thanksgiving!

I guess because children can so easily get confused and Thanksgiving always means turkey, that is why I got confused the year I got chicken poxs on thanksgiving and when my grandparents arrived I pulled up my pj shirt and said "LOOK GRANDMA! I Have turkey poxs!!!" my grandmother chuckled about it all day long!!! it was always a pleasure to see my grandmother smile!!! Sure would love to see that smile again! Someday I will in heaven

my favorite memory is simply gathering as a family and enjoying the day at my grandmother's house. after dinner was over and everyone was stuffed, we could officially "start christmas". in my family this ment getting out some really horrible old records out. like the dogs barking christmas carols and the drunken 12 days of christmas. *sigh* i need a cd of those songs...

My favorite memories are from the day AFTER Thanksgiving, actually! We always went to cut down our Christmas tree and before that we would get together with a bunch of people and have a really yummy breakfast at our favorite breakfast place!

oh yumm... I remember the one and only Thanksgiving that my ENTIRE family was at my grandparents, that's her 6 children, 17 grandchildren, and 4 great grand children, it was a while ago because she now has 21 grand, 12 great and 3 great, great grandchildren. But it was the best Thanksgiving, tons of food, everyone together, and stories being told.
P.S. You don't have to enter me in the giveaway, I won the last one, which by the way I got in the mail yesterday! :) it's great, thank you!

A favorite Thanksgiving was the first Thanksgiving dinner I cooked all by myself to celebrate with my fiance. Our kitchen was about the size of a small walk in closet but it made up for its size by the memories it made. The apartment smelled so good and I was happy that I was actually getting it all together without too much trouble.... When it was time to serve dinner the turkey looked perfect, the mashed potatoes were whipped, cranberry sauce and other side dished served up. Then it came time to remove the stuffing (or dressing) from the bird. I unhitched his skin back door compartment and OMG!!! The dressing was DRY!!! I didn't know you had to add liquid to the dressing. I thought the juices from the bird all soaked into the stuffing and that's how it got to be so moist. Ha! It was all pretty funny and we laughed about it hysterically. It is still a great memory.
