It's a bird, it's a plane, it's.........................

If you saw yesterdays video and blog, the picture to the left is what he looked like- Okay, Except for the super hero outfit of course.

No really, he possessed super powers, as our office can attest to.

There are very few things that I'm afraid of, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why it's mice.

My wife reminds me and all of her friends, quite often about when we first got married, and we had a mouse in our house. She re-tells with great detail how her strong brave new husband jumped, okay leaped up onto our couch, to avoid one of those cute, sweet, dirty, disgusting, dreadful, field varmints.

That being said, I do like Mighty Mouse, Tom, Jerry, Mickey, and Minnie. Does that count?

I have what's referred to as Musophobia. I fear mice, not so much rats, but mice. I get hives when I see them and start coughing like I'm going to throw-up. ( see the video)
My body was once covered completly in hives after seeing a large group of them in my wood shed.

What I'm not is Agrizoophobic- I love wild animals and like being out and around them. Nor am I Arachnephobiac. When I was a kid I would let them crawl on my arm or play with them like a yo-yo by grabbing part of their web.

I love heights, chopsticks and clowns. So I'm neither Acrophobiac, Consecotaleophobiac, nor Coulrophobiac!

I'm guessing if you went to the link below, you might find something that bothers you like mice bother me.
http://phobialist.com/

When you get a second.......Take a look and get back to me!

P.S. Did I mention that those who we here back from, there names will be entered in a drawing for $100.00 retail value of free Cosmo Cricket products of there choice.

I think I have a bit of Insectophobia (Fear of insects)- particularly large ones. It doesn't matter if they crawl, fly or slither. I pretty much hate all bugs.

I had no idea a person could fear such a thing as kidney disease or body smells. I have learned more than a few things from the phobia website! I hate mice too...their little feet and tails gross me out. Not to mention the mess they leave behind. I have a few other phobias on the list, but wouldn't necessarily call them "fears" but rather "dislikes". Thanks for the 'fun', enlightening post! I'm liking the Chemistry line so much...thanks for that too. =)

My 12 year old son can assure you I have:

Bromidrosiphobia or Bromidrophobia- Fear of body smells.

Middle school students are only allowed to come to my school library first thing in the morning. NEVER after lunch, recess or gym!

Let's see... I have Acrophobia- Fear of heights. I'm also afraid of me or especially my children falling off a cliff or high place, but that's not on the list.

Agoraphobia- Fear of open spaces, also known as panic disorder.

Arachnephobia or Arachnophobia- Fear of spiders (that's my biggest!)

Other than that, I'm good! I love mice! But I really loved the video yesterday. That was so funny to watch. He was acting like a hyped up kid. Too funny!

I certainly don't have papyrophobia fear of paper) either! LOL ... Phobophobia? (fear of phobias) OK that's too weird!!
I have agoraphobia (fear of crowded places & leaving safe places) & arachnophobia (spiders)... anything else is just a dislike rather than a fear.
I have an ex with Batrachophobia (frogs) - he was such a big guy & frogs are soooo little (& not vermin like mice) that I'm afraid I found it v. funny! Is that very mean of me

Well, i'm thinking we have a Phobia-ful Family lol.

I am most definitely Coulrophobia- to me, clowns are sooooo creepy. Let's just say that the sight of them makes me want to...hmmm...have a little accident lol.

My husband is definitely Arachnophobic. He literally leaps into rooms like a superhero at the sight of one- lol, sometimes it's pretty funny.

And last but not least, little Riley, my 1 year old pup. This little monster is most definite Cathisophobic. He definitely has a fear of sitting, lol, he just can't do it.

Thanks for sharing. I really did learn a lot. I probably picked up some new fears just for reading some of the list lol.

Pnigophobia-fear of being smothered (more so a fear of not breathing)
Yikes! I'm messed up! :-p

Well, it's not on the list, but since having children, I have a fear of using public restrooms. Actually it's more of a disgust. Not that I loved using them before, but now, it just makes my skin crawl to HAVE to use them at all.

I definitely have Gymnophobia - Fear of nudity.

I have a fear of going to bed naked, and waking up in a hospital somewhere...knowing the paramedics or fire department found me that way. LOL!

Ephebiphobia- Fear of teenagers

The first one that comes to mind is Allodoxaphobia (Fear of opinions)with the current election and all. I think I developed some fears after reading that list. I had no idea that people could be afraid of such things, much less have a term to describe them.

Mottephobia - the fear of moths - not so sure I am glad it has a name. I have been known to laugh at bees, yellow jackets, spiders, etc., but let a moth come into my space and I freak out. Just the way they fly around, gives me the chills.

ScrapAddict said...

I must admit I have....Ergophobia- Fear of work.

I definitely have a fear of mice too! I used to stay over at my friend's house after an encounter and hope I would come home to them in the trap....though I always got my neighbor to take it out of the house. No way was I touching that!

Free Cosmo Cricket goodies would be a great way to block these memories!

Since I since I saw the 2nd grade Fire Prevention Demonstration---->Pyrophobia- Fear of fire.

I need some candy to try to recover...

I couldn't find mine - but the closest would be Lygophobia- Fear of darkness.
I'm not actually scared of the dark, its more what could be lurking in the dark
If I have a bad dream in the middle of the night, I'm too scared to get up and go to the bathroom - have to go and switch just about every light on in the house, just in case something or someone is lurking in the dark.
Yes I know its daft, and yes I know I'm supposed to be a grown up at 35 years of age.
My other fear has to be a fear of drowning, but I couldnt find that either

I have to tell you my mouse story!! My husband and I had bought our first house and did tons of work on it and were so proud when my dad came from Nebraska to visit. We insisted on giving him the master bedroom and were going to sleep on the floor in the living room. Well the day he got there I had chili in the crockpot so it would be ready when I got home from work and he arrived. When I pulled out the crackers for the meal there was the EVIDENCE of a mouse. I was so embarrased but my hubby was a little more upset than I would have guessed him to be. He hurried out to get more crackers and also came home with a trap. Which after everyone went to bed he set in the kitchen (which in this house was open to the livingroom!!) I didn't think he would even be able to sleep he was so worried about that mouse!! So after everything was quiet for a couple hours we hear the SNAP and he very cautiously goes into the kitchen to see if he caught it and being the jokester that I am I sneak in and toss a rubber bat (it was halloween time) about the time he bends over to look at the trap!!! HE HIT THE ROOF!!! We woke up everyone in the house with his yelling and my histerical laughter!! That was about 15 years ago and we still talk about it!

Anyway, I have a few of the phobias listed but I don't want to tell my husband for the FEAR of him getting me like I got him!! Fun post!

I fear my husband finding out how much I spend on scrapbooking stuff. I didn't see any names for that on the Phobia list. =) When I order something I hurry up and bring it to my craft room so that I don't hear it from him. If only all men were understanding of our need to create!

Okay, first of all, I'd like to say that I am a therapist so I have been at least AWARE of my phobias...perhaps didn't know exactly what to call them. Okay, here goes:

Chickens (live ones, childhood trauma - don't ask) alektorophobia

Chins (the anatomical part of the face, not the Chinese people named Chin) geniophobia

Tyrants - tyrannophobia (which I think sounds more like fear of dinosaurs, specifically tyranosaurus rex.) :-)

There you have it. Me in a "NUT" shell!

I have Mice-Musophobia, Murophobia or Suriphobia too! Serious, like you I cannot come in contact with these creatures, it's not pretty. I remember once when spotting one, I flew, somehow I had super powers and really flew upon a chair, it wasn't a step up on one, I really flew upon that chair. Since we live out in the country, we really have to be on top of the rodent control. We use a product called Blue Death, and it must be use to prevent these creatures from checking in to their not to be hotel. Okay now I have the heebie jeebies.

I have Ophidiophobia - HUGE fear of snakes. Alligators, too. Pretty much anything scaley.
And definitely mice. They scare the crap out of me. My domesticated cat Mitzi caught one a few years ago and was just batting it around playing with it in the living room. Well, I thought she was just playing with one of her toy mice so I went and sat down next to her to play with her and um, SURPRISE, it was a LIVE mouse! I literally almost had a heart attack and I am not kidding.
I guess she had no clue she was supposed to kill it!
Anyway, since then, they scare the crap out of me. Yuck yuck yuck!!

I don't mind mice, but I have a BAD case of achondroplasiaphobia (fear of Midgets). I'm not sure what it is, but I freeze in place and my eyes start watering...not crying, just watering. I think it's because they are stuck open as far as they'll go and not blinking (because I'm frozen in place so s/he can't see me). I'm not sure what I'd do if one tapped me on the leg. One word for you.......VTech electronic mouse traps, I have a picture of them on my blog. That will get them every time, even before you SEE them!!!

I live next to town with corn fields across from me, so every fall we go through the mouse migration. Sometimes it is one or two, sometimes 4-5 until it stops.

That video freaked me out and I didn't even SEE the mouse. I have that same fear. I loathe the little things, I am a chair hopper, screamer, almost pee my pants kind of mice hater.

I have a 2 gallon zip lock bag full of wood mouse traps (about 25 of them)that I store in a big plastic container. One little sign of a mouse, I drag them out and load them all up with a sunflower seed and a bit of peanut butter. I get real clever and tuck the seed under that little arm that sticks out, then slap the PB over it so they have to work to get it, because sometimes the trap is empty and not set. They are tricky. I got on the internet to find out how to best set up the traps. They recommend three in a row facing the wall, this way if they run across one, they will not escape 3 traps. !!!

Whenever my college age son comes home to see all the traps, he announces that the MOUSE TRAP land mine is a treacherous one to maneuver. Then he starts teasing me with pokes in the ribs whenever I am checking the traps.

I won't empty the traps or go anywhere near them, I hate them so much. If I am in a situation where there is nobody to remove them, I use a long handled broom to sweep them into a dust pan, trap and all and toss them into the yard until my hubby can take them out.

No trap is re-used, except the Vtech one, the wooden ones are tossed with the mouse in them!

I sometimes use sticky traps next to the wooden ones because they have tried to get away if not killed by the wooden ones. All I can say is, it is a good thing I have no small children at home. I'd have to put them in day care until I caught the mouse.

However, that electric trap gets them EVERY SINGLE TIME!

Ranidaphobia - fear of FROGS!!! I got the willies just typing the word. Eww, those buggy eyes and slimy skin.... and they'll POUNCE when you least expect it. No warning!! LOL, I hope I get a Cosmo shopping spree :)

Gotta disagree, rats are more icky than mice. Neither are welcome in my house.

Wow- I see a lot on that page that could apply. I have always thought I was afraid of heights but actually I think it's this:
Aeroacrophobia- Fear of open high places
What a breakthrough! This makes more sense! I hate being on a balcony or edge of a cliff (hiking). It's not so much how high it is but just the fact that it's not enclosed!I am also not fond of mice... the video was hysterical!

My biggest fears---
Achluophia---fear of dark (esp when hubby isnt home and I hear a "noise!")

Thanathophobia-fear of death (not so much death itself but the HOW!)

BUT MY BIGGEST FEAR---

CosmoCricketlessaphobia---fear of not having any Cosmo Crocket paper to design with!

I'm an arachnaphobe.....spiders make me sick! It's the worst when the kids spot one and I have to be the brave one and take care of it. eewww

My list could go on and on...lol but heres a big one

Cleithrophobia or Cleisiophobia- Fear of being locked in an enclosed place.

Spiders. I hate spiders. I'm terrified of them. I will start crying if I see one. Except for Daddy Long Legs for some reason. They just don't seem as scary to me.

think I have a bit of Insectophobia (Fear of insects and snakes!but i think anything that crawl or fly make me shake

Sorry for laughing at your video yesterday but Mr. Lindsey's reaction to a mouse is the same I have to spiders so I completely undertand - maybe that is why I thought it was funny because I have done the same thing.

I definitely have Arachnephobia. Just thinking about spiders makes me squirmy and my toes curl - literally! Ok, enough already, I got to think about something else now.

I think I'm typical with Claustrophobia! :) That's alot of phobias!

What a fun site to wander through~I had no idea!

One thing I DO know is that I don't have Euphobia... so go ahead: hit me with some GOOD NEWS on this blog first thing tomorrow morning!

My favorite part of the video from yesterday was Lindsay comparing the mouse to RAMBO! (snicker!)

Gephyrophobia (fear of bridges). How lovely for me that I live in "The City of Bridges" and have to drive across one everyday to get to work.
When I had to drive across the floating bridge in Seattle I desperately wanted to just close my eyes and let someone else steer!

Holy Moly! I had no idea there were so many things to be afraid of. I don't know if I have a true fear but I don't like spiders & am not real comfortable with tight spaces.

I guarantee you that my husband has Phalacrophobia (the fear of being bald), but what he doesn't realize is that I do NOT have Peladophobia (fear of bald people). I think they are sexy!

Well, I'm a bit late on the comments....BUT...hello Lindsay. So sorry for your experience! I too have Musophobia. I had a horrible experience as a teen...one ran under my foot, and didn't quite make it. Ugh...just the thought of it is disgusting! You guessed it, he got squished under my foot! Made a horrible sound, and my foot has never been the same! Shoes...in the garbage! Kind of icky!

I also do not like bugs too much...insectophobia...or snakes...snakephobia!

This is hilarious--our entire office was a sounding board just like that about 3 weeks ago -- you could hear the echoes as the little guy made his way around. I guess mine must be: Acrophobia

Well, the things I'm afraid of, I cannot find on the list. I'm afraid of terrorism and global warming (just makes me nervous about the future of our planet when I see the stories about the polar bears having no where to go because the ice is gone! Egads!)

I do dislike something very much, and it's on the list. I have Emetophobia. I won't say what it is. It's kinda gross!

I dislike rodents, snakes, and spiders very much, but I really think that is VERY common! Anyway, this list is interesting! I had no idea there were so many phobias!!

I'm with you on the mice thing. I have friends that are big outdoor hiker/backpackers and they have told me stories of having to sleep with their sleeping bags open at both ends to let the little guys run through at night! It gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it!

I used to have Urophobia in public places. If there was even one person in the restroom, I wouldn't go! I have gotten over it...I really have to tell myself..."There's no one there!" I know...weird.

I have complete Arsonphobia or Pyrophobia depending on whatever you wish to call it. I don't even like lighting candles in the house and any candles I get as gifts get regifted. Horrible I know. Now I just blame my fear on the massive amounts of paper I have in my house for scrapbooking!

Holly Denghel said...

Hmm, I couldn't find one of mine ... I am not afraid of heights, I am afraid of falling from high places. If I'm up high but feel like I won't fall, then I'm fine.

I'm also afraid of most insects and crawly things, so I also have Entomophobia

Bonnie said...

I used to have Ephebiphobia - fear of teenagers - when my kids were teenagers because they had Hypengyophobia - fear of responsibility! Now that they have grown and gone from home I have Agoraphobia - fear of leaving a safe place - in case they come back while I'm gone!! - (just kidding)

Your list was incredible. I had no idea there were so many fears out there. Although, I have to say that I am terrified of small crawling things like spiders, mice, bugs -- OK, maybe more than I want to admit...

Donna said...

I have a big arachnophobia problem. I can't see them in books or on the tv, most definitely in NOT in real life! LOL

Rebecca Keppel said...

I am terrified of scorpions. No, I have never even seen one, but after moving to AZ it was all I could think about. And hearing stories of friends say they were stung in their beds whilst sleeping does not help my fear one bit!

Heather said...

That list is awesome! I definitely need to spend a little more time there since I have a list of a ton of phobias...claustrophobia being one of the worst.

I never thought a mouse in my house would bother me, until there was one in my stamping room. I felt so violated. And I was doing a lot more squealing than you. I called my dh home from work. He locked me in the room with it so I could keep an eye on it while he got something to try to trap it. Needless to say my sister who was on the other side of the door was laughing hysterically.

Thanks for the phobia link... I now know that I suffer from Ichthyophobia -- a fear of fish. I hate swimming in any body of water containing fish, and I break out in a cold sweat if I have to walk by a wall of fish tanks in a pet store. I had a friend who claimed to suffer from a fear of mayonnaise. I couldn't find it on the list, but maybe we can call it Hellmanophobia?

I'm sure I don't have Dutchphobia - Fear of the Dutch. It would be pretty annoying scaring yourself every time you like in the mirror.

Coulrophobiac. Yep, that's me. Hate clowns. And mice...boy do I have mouse stories...mice in boots (my 5 year old son's) mice in toasters (my cousins...but it was me making the toast) mice in tubs...you name it, I probably have the story to go with it.
Nice, eh :)

Altophobia- Fear of heights

Hydrophobia- Fear of water or of rabies...I have a fear of water...but what the heck does water have to do with rabies?

Hypsiphobia- Fear of height.

Batophobia- Fear of heights or being close to high buildings.

Acrophobia- Fear of heights.

Ok...there are way too many for the fear of heights.

Well I guess I have: Bathmophobia- Fear of stairs or steep slopes. I always feel as if I am falling or being pulled down. Also I couldn't actually find a name for the precise phobia, but I have a fear of looking out into darkness that is unfamiliar. I am always afraid of something jumping out at me... LOL!!!!
