Confessions of a Butter Lover

Here's the honest truth, I am 5' 10" tall in my bare feet. I way 172 pounds and I'm pretty sure 170 of them are on my thighs. My pant size is a 14 and sometimes thats a bit snug. According to the Body Mass Index this does not make me overweight, but I am at the very top of the healthy weight range. In fact, if I gained 4 more pounds I would tip into the overweight range. And, let me assure you that I don't have the "muscle-mass-weighing-more-than-fat" problem! In fact, after trying to do push ups with Eric the other day, I'm pretty sure I don't have any muscle mass at all!

I have been eating well and exercising every day (except Sundays, of course) for a week and I have lost two pounds. I like to think of pounds in measurements of butter. I have lost two boxes of butter!!! I'm not sure from where, but I can guarantee you that it wasn't from my thighs!

So, this is the beginning of my Weigh In Wednesdays (yes, I stole that from Donna). If you would like to join me on Weigh In Wednesdays, today you can post your weight or your goal weight or just some encouragement for the rest of us. Next week join us and post your weight loss. Tomorrow I will draw a winner and have a prize that weighs at least two pounds sent to them.

I have to say, I don't admit my weight to just anyone, but I love the idea of the losing pounds of butter...
I too am 5'10" but weigh a bit more than you. When I met my dh 11 years ago I weighed 125...11 years, 2 kids and 70 pounds later I struggle to diet on a daily basis. I'd love to play along with your weigh in wednesday! My goal is 150 (but I would be THRILLED with 160).

I love the idea of a weigh in Wed. I won't admit my weight, but I will say that I have gained way to much since getting married 19 years ago. My official weight loss goal is over 100 pounds, but for the moment, I would like to set a smaller goal of 10 pounds. I think it would be easier to do this in smaller goals. A few years ago I joined Weight Watchers and lost 40 pounds. Was really feeling good about it, but then had a few setbacks and have gained back the entire 40 plus. I need to get back on track.

Like you, I'm at the top of "normal" weight. I'm just 5'2" tall. I'd like to weigh 125 pounds.

WTG and congrats!!

I'm on the same track and even though I won't post my weight here (or anywhere unless I'm being forced... *grins*) I'll still tag along and be supportive!! :D

I am trying to get back down to my "all of my life I have weighed" weight of 118. not a big deal to most, but when you gain any amount of weight that alters how your pants fit...then it's a problem!!!

I am working on it- butter is my downfall though! LOVE IT!

Fun idea! I've got some to lose too...hopefully before I get pregnant again! lol. I honestly don't know what I weigh right now and I want to get down to around 125 or 130. I'm 5'3"

Congrats!! Wow, you want us to actually *say* how much we weigh?! That's difficult for me because then I will have to admit that I'm overweight. I guess *technically* I'm not super overweight, but like you I'm at the top of the scale (in more ways than one!) I need to lose about 25lbs. I tried weight watchers last fall, followed it exactly, only cheated maybe 1 or 2 days, and still only lost 8lbs...very discouraging. But I may just decide to join you (and everyone else) on this little challenge :)

Congrats on your two boxes of butter weight loss, Julie! I need to lose the Costco refrigerated section of butter...I will secretly weigh in and use what I already know I need to be doing for a healthier life....good luck everyone and see ya back here for "Weigh-in Wed."!

there's nothing better than support when you're working on losing weight.
i'll be checking in.
definitly.

Good for you Julie for setting a goal and already making progress! And they say a loss of 1-2 lbs a week is very healthy! I did Weight Watchers a few years ago and for me it wasn't a diet plan but a way to change my thinking on eating. To this day I still use it although not regularly...but when I feel a couple of pounds creeping on I start counting the points again to level it back off quickly. And mostly because I am not a fan of exercise........LOL

Let me just share: 9 years ago I lost 100lbs, yippee. I said I would never be fat again, and I've stuck to it. My weight does fluctuate but I never go over 10lbs of my ideal weight. I weigh daily and if I see the scale tipping the wrong way I just cut back and get myself back down to where I belong. I've been off for the summer because I work for the schools, so its a hard time because you tend to eat more when your home, so lets just say I need to take of 6lbs, but I'm not sharing my weight...(hehe)

Well, I am just plain fat right now. But, thisweek I joined Jazzercise and am starting a food diary. I read an article about people that keep a food diary actually losing more than those that don't. My main problem is night time, and the fact that I work from home at my computer. Just simply do not get out and sweat enough. I am 5"4" and weight 160. I'd like to lose 30 pounds. Weigh in WEdnesdays, here I come!

Awesome on the 2 pound weight loss!! That's great!

I am 5'5" and currently weigh 142 (on my scale although it weighs a lot less than the doctor's scale, but we'll stick with my scale!). I would like to lose about 20 pounds. When I started college I barely weighed 100 (which was too skinny) and 13 years, 1 husband and 2 kids later I've gotten to where I am now!!

Jennifer Priest said...

OMG Do I really want to share what I really really weigh?!? I was totally inspired by Donna too. I started eating less already and started working out on our Wii Fit. I'm 5'2" and my BMI is way way way out of control. It's all this scrapping I tell ya--sedentary work! I'll be brave. 247. Ouch. I want to lose at least 80 lbs.

Casie said...

Thanks for starting this!! I have just re-focused on eating health and want to lose weight too. My goal weight is 150#.

Julie said...

Hey Jennifer,

You are so brave to "come clean" and I think you're awesome! You can do it, one box of butter at a time baby!

Maria C said...

I am right there with you, but my weigh in is on Saturday, but I am not brave enough to post it on my blog yet.

Corey W. said...

well if we're talking butter then I've lost 7 boxes - but it has taken me over 2 months because a vacation in Seattle set me back! I do my weigh in's on Sunday - I'll let you know if I'm down any more butter!!!

Kacey Elliott said...

I love it - Butter! I never thought of it that way! Of course, my down fall is that I LOVE butter! And another problem is just as Jennifer said, scrapping and being sedentary. That is why we gain it in the middle ladies - UGH! Well, like AJ said, it's about how your pants fit. When I met my husband I was 116 lbs, 5'7". Now although my height hasn't changed, my weight has creeped up to 135 with the help of two kids and of course the butter :-) My main goal is to lose only about 5 or so more lbs, but mostly to tone. One goal I set for myself this summer was to walk every other morning - boy does it invigorate me and really get me through the day! It's about little changes, and attainable goals. Good for you Julie and thanks for inspiring the rest of us to get started or to keep on!

Natasja Cats - Verbeek said...

After reading all your weights...I will keep it at posting my goal :S
I want to loose about 44lbs more. Already lost 26.4...

Natasja Cats - Verbeek said...

O and Julie....congrats on already loosing 2 packages of butter !

Amy Jacobs said...

ok- I can do this......... I am 5'10 and weigh in at 240.6. We just bought a Wii Fit and I have that d*arn little Mii telling me that I am obese, so that is the motivation I needed to kick it into high gear. We have been eating better and I even got my 5 year old to eat a salad (GASP) so I want to get fit and healthy just to keep up with him. I will be joinging you for every wiegh in Wednesday. Thanks for doing this.

I took a deep breath before I started typing this...

I'm 5'8" and weigh 196 lbs. I can't use the "I just had a baby" excuse; my baby just turned two years old.

My goal is to get back into a size 12. I'm currently in a size 16. I'm slowly-but-surely going to get into a size 12. I've recently had to start wearing a belt with some of my pants. YEAH!

Keep up the good work!

I need to put it in writing publicly because that makes me more accountable - I think! Anyway, I weigh 184 and am 5'2" --geesh! My goal is 50 lbs in 7 months - just like Donna. She is very influential on a lot of us, isn't she? And I'm doing the before and after photos, too, but those won't be made public until the mission is accomplished!

cbk said...

Congrats on losing two boxes of butter Julie!! I'm sure we all have a few pounds we'd like to drop, eat less and exercise more, that's my plan. Keep up the good work!

Holly Denghel said...

I'm not ready to share my current weight or my goal with the world, but I have to say, I think your idea of measuring weight loss in boxes of butter is fabulous. Just think, if you lose 10 pounds, that's 10 boxes!! I think that seeing something visual like that hits home a lot harder than numbers on a scale.

Good luck, and I look forward to seeing more and more boxes!

Cass said...

I weigh way too much. I'd love to lose half a kilo (a lb) in the next week.

Gayle215 said...

Congrats on losing 2 lbs of butter! Normally I would never reveal my weight, unless tortured by the thought of getting some product...so, o.k. 162.2. Down from 173. The KEY to success is writing/journaling everything you eat & drink...everyday. You will be amazed by how honest this keeps you. Good luck. My goal is 145.

It's really cool to look at this weight loss in bricks of butter!

I wont admit my weight on such a big forum, but I'll say I need to lose 60 lbs!!!!! Yikes!

Yikes! When I started reading your confession, I was nibbling on a chocolate bliss candy!! Oh well, I will try my best. 5'4" - 145. This is like going to be like weight watchers!! I will try my best.

Anthea said...

Oh Julie, congratulations!!!

I had started a weight loss/ healthy lifestyle journey 2 years ago, lost 15 kilos (30 pounds) then only months later my Father died in an accident and well I put on 5 kilos (10 pounds), had another baby and have yet to shift that weight. I guess it showed I was an emotional eater.
BUT this seems like a great kick up the butt to do somthing about it! Ideally I would love to drop 10 kilos (20 pounds) and see how I go at maintaining that. SO see this as my weighin!

Robyn W said...

offering some support here too....for me its about gettiing fit...and not having to buy the next size up...i am close to it too...so i will also follow along

funny, I was just comparing my weight to butter a few weeks ago! yuck. great idea. I don't know if I am ready to go public yet. but way to go!

I am on a personal weight loss challenge of my own. I want to try to get pregnant next year and would love to actaully have a baby bump and not a fat bump. I am dieting and excercising and weigh myself every monday morning. So far I have lost about 8 lbs. in 3 weeks! Current weight=167.0

Nancy said...

Wow--just stumbled onto this tongiht. My plans for tomorrow included "inventory reduction" in our bedroom, so I could use my recumbant bike again. We're planning a trip to Hawaii in January, and would love to lose some weight! I'm 5'11", and would like to lose atleast 50lbs, but just 5-10 would thrill me to death!! Thanks for your inspiration Juliej:)

I always weigh in on Wednesday so this is perfect for me...today I stayed the same - since last August I have lost 46.6 pounds and my goal is 60 pounds gone - on my way! :)

holly b said...

Good luck to all of you. I don't necessarily have pounds to lose, but I would like to get fit. I stopped exercising about a year and a half ago, and I feel like I'm out of shape.

GSGC StrongFamily said...

Way to go! That is awesome! I've lost about the same amount of weight in the past week-and was disapponted, but I didn't think of it in pounds of butter! That makes it so much better! My goal weight is 130 and I have 10 more pounds to lose! :) Keep up the good work!!!

I weigh 166 pounds ... there, I said it! Which wouldn't be sooooo bad were I not 5'3" ... so more teletubby than giant really.
WTG on the weight loss ... you'll have a svelte 'Donna' size figure in no time!!

I love the idea of weigh in Wednesday. I'm not ready to talk about my weight, but I'd be glad to check in and talk about how much I've lost each week. :) This is just the inspiration I need to get back on track with Weight Watchers! :) Congratulations on your 2lb loss, Julie! :)

and for the record, I happen to have been in your booth at CHA several times(stalking! we were taking pictures for Maren) and I didn't ever once think you were any thing but long and lean.
You look to have the perfect frame.

Kim said...

What a wonderful idea to do this here - together! I have been there my whole life - was called fat in 1st grade... I am finally at a point where I am ok with what I weigh, but struggle daily with keeping in control. You all have the right idea to seek support, write down your food consumption and never quit trying! I'd still love to lose about 5-10 more but am content where I am if I don't (already down 75-80 from my max). I'll drop in now and then to lend some encouragement! You CAN do it - One stick of butter at a time!

Janie said...

Congrats on the 2 box butter loss. I need to lose about 60 of those boxes. I will come clean and post that my weight is 230 boxes of butter. I am so with ya on this journey.

Kim said...

I did this too..........when you get to 5 lbs. compare it to a bag of sugar. It feels like such an accomplisment this way!! I ended up losing 30lbs. when all was said and done. They only went off a couple of pounds a month over a couple year span. It's slow, but it happens!!

Amy Wing said...

Wow! Pounds of butter... mmmmm....

Well, okay, that's not supposed to make me feel yummy when we're talking about lost pounds, right?

Anyway, I've been working on my habits for a couple of months, and so far I've lost 11 pounds - made my first 5% goal (the scale this week was up again by 5 pounds, but I'm hoping that's because I added in resistance exercises this week?).

It's hard not to let it all go when things get overwhelming, but so far I'm doing well. I just joined the gym (I used to be such a gym rat in college), and I've been there 5 times so far (in the past two weeks).

I'm currently 211, started at 217, goal is 170, and I'm 5'7". I look pretty darn smokin' at 170 - and more importantly, if I'm fit, I feel great.

Amy Wing said...

Oh, and if anyone wants to check out SparkPeople (it's free!), I'm stuffinmuffin on there. There's also a "Scrap to Lose" team.

You are SO funny! I lost 13 kilos (28 pounds) last year and I have plateaued now... I need some motivation to move the last 10 pounds!

shopgirlaudi said...

Great idea. I SO need to do this. I have been lacking the motivation to stick to my diet:( I need to weight in tomorrow and really start getting serious about sticking to my diet/exercise routine:)

Elaine said...

I started at 160 on July 7. Got down to 155 last week, but blew it with a trip to Krispy Kreme and some other boo boos....at 157 now. Need to be at 150 by September 1st. That 7 lbs in one month. I KNOW I can do it!! :)

Jenna Franklin said...

Joining the game a little late but I need something to hold me accountable, lol, since I just seem to be going nowhere on my own! I'm 5'6" and at 160. Which is where I was when I went into labor with my son 7 1/2 years ago! I was 110 before I got pregnant but my actual goal (not a chance I'll ever be 110 again, lol) is 135 so I need to lose 25 pounds. Even more important than the pounds though, to me, is all the odd "lumps". I have zero tone on my body, lol!

Jak said...

Omgosh admitting how much I weigh is like confessing how much I spend on scrapping stash, definately a no no! LOL

However, I am trying to cut down on my spends (failed miserably) and food consumption and to date have lost 10lbs in weight, thanks to weight watchers and my Wii fit -ideally another 20lbs would good!
